Guangdong police are now posting rewards for the capture of 10 gang members who are accused of being in league with a secret society and are now on the run.
According to a statement released by Guangdong Provincial Department Public Security on Sunday, those who tip-off police will be rewarded with up to 50,000 yuan ($7,143) when their tip-offs lead to at least one of the escaped fugitives being detained.
Police promised to keep the personal data of whistleblowers secret, the statement said.
Meanwhile, police will take effective and concrete measures to guard against any retaliation from the suspected gang members, the statement said.
"Police across the province urge the suspects who are on the run to soon surrender themselves to police for leniency, and those who know the whereabouts of the escaped suspects to actively tip-off police," the statement said .
The 10 suspected gang members, including one woman and nine men, are aged from 24 to 55 years old, the statement added.
They are suspected of organizing and participating in mafia-style gangs, running secret casinos, fraud, extortion, illegal mining and organizing prostitution.
Cao Ji, 24, a native of Duchang county in East China's Jiangxi province, is the only woman on the list. She is suspected of committing extortion.
