A modern transportation system combining land, water and air traffic is taking shape in Yantai, said Mayor Chen Fei.
Chen made the remarks at a plenary meeting of Yantai delegates during the third session of the 13th Shandong Provincial People's Congress held in Jinan on Jan 19.
He said that Yantai aims to establish a three-hour high-speed train circle and a two-hour flight circle in hopes of stimulating economic vitality.
Construction is about to begin on the Weifang-Yantai high speed railway, while construction on the 28.5 billion-yuan ($4.14 billion) Laixi-Rongcheng high speed railway will begin sometime this year, and the Weifang-Laixi high speed railway will be open to traffic by the end of this year.
As for water transport, the city is also promoting the construction of the second phase of the crude oil terminal at Yantai port.
In 2019, Yantai Penglai International Airport received a record 10 million passengers and 57,000 tons of goods, respective year-on-year increases of 24 percent and 11.7 percent.
The city expects more than 23 million airport passengers in 2030 by starting construction on the second phase of the Penglai airport this year.
The first subway will be available in Yantai this year to help ease urban traffic, according to the mayor.
