During the May Day holiday, which this year was from May 1 to 5, Southwest China's Guizhou province received 23.94 million domestic tourists, achieving a tourism revenue of 9.48 billion yuan ($1.34 billion). These numbers are 51.9 percent and 47.7 percent of the same period last year, respectively.

Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, tourists tended to go to scenic spots with smaller tourist volumes instead of popular ones. Rural tourism and ecotourism were also favored by tourists.

Red tourism routes released by Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism attracted tourists to red tourism sites. Zunyi's famous red tourism sites such as Zunyi Conference site, the Red Army's general political department site, and Loushanguan scenic spot, reached their maximum tourist capacities.

The online reservation system for Guizhou's A-level scenic spots helped to relieve traffic congestion at express ways and scenic spot entrances.

Staff members at some scenic spots set checkpoints on express way entrances to persuade tourists without a reservation to turn back. An all-in-one 'intelligent tourism monitoring platform' also directed traffic flows through video monitors to maintain order at scenic spots.

Over the May Day holiday, Guizhou received nine valid travel-related complaints and 35 consultations or help calls. All of the complaints and calls were responded to and handled.
