Beijing United Family Hospital partners with InterSystems to boost digitalization

Beijing United Family Hospital, one of the high-level private medical institutions in China, has worked with US-based software company InterSystems Corp in the digitalized healthcare information sector to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak.

In the fight against COVID-19, BJU is a private hospital that can both receive fever outpatients and offer bilingual international services, said Sylvia Pan, general manger of the hospital, adding informatization construction is of great significance for hospitals to deal with diseases.

Pan said the hospital has a comprehensive medical service system centered on general practice empowered by InterSystems' TrakCare united healthcare information systems, and provides full life-cycle medical services, multi-disciplinary and coordinated diagnosis and treatment.

TrakCare supports BJU in setting standards for workflow, diagnosis and treatment plans related to the COVID-19 epidemic based on government guidelines, making sure all fever patients can get professional screenings, and providing fast and correct diagnosis and treatment for patients who are not infected with the virus.

"The pandemic has made patients with chronic diseases seek online healthcare services, which let us consider how to respond to our patients' needs for long-term health management," Pan noted.

During the outbreak, Pan said they provided online healthcare services to patients, made use of the internet platform to carry out remote medical consultation and followed up with patients.

This is the 12th year since BJU inked partnership with InterSystems. Pan hopes BJU and InterSystems cooperate more in the fields of gerontology and chronic disease management.

InterSystems, which offers advanced technologies for data management, integration and analytics, has intensified efforts to expand its cooperation with Chinese partners in the healthcare industry and launch tailor-made products in the country.

Luciano Brustia, regional managing director for Asia-Pacific at InterSystems, said by 2025 the TrakCare system will cover the globe, including South America, North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

He added since the COVID-19 outbreak, InterSystems has brought together the best clinical teams around the world to collect the world's best diagnosis and treatment methods, and put them together to establish a standardized process. It translated these results into standardized workflows for United Family Hospital.

He believed the Chinese government and healthcare industry will invest a large sum of money in enhancing data efficiency to obtain data more quickly and reliably in the aftermath of the pandemic.

China will boost its health-related industries and the market for health services is estimated to reach 16 trillion yuan ($2.3 trillion) by 2030, according to a forecast by the National Health Commission.b
