May 7: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 6, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 2 new cases of confirmed infections (both are imported cases, 1 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Guangdong province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both are imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 46 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 627 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.
As of 24:00 on May 6, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,680 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,434 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 246 confirmed cases (including 5 in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 6, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,885 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,957 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 295 confirmed cases (including 23 in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. So far, 735,737 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 6,537 are now under medical observation.
On May 6, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 6 new asymptomatic cases (all are indigenous cases). 29 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 7 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 6, 880 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 81 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 6, 1,524 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,040 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 932 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (40 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 439 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 339 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
