May 5: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 4, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 1 new case of confirmed infections (an imported case in Shanghai municipality), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 87 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 710 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 4.
As of 24:00 on May 4, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,676 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,351 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 325 confirmed cases (including 5 in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 4, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,881 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,853 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 395 confirmed cases (including 29 in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. So far, 735,240 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,152 are now under medical observation.
On May 4, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 15 new asymptomatic cases (all are indigenous cases). 30 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 4 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 4, 947 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 94 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 4, 1,523 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,040 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 900 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (39 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 438 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 334 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
