Ordos electrode paste plant to start producing in June

A electrode paste plant with an annual production of 300,000 tons will start producing in June in the Inner Mongolia Jungar Economic Development Zone in Ordos, according to local officials.

Electrode paste is used for the manufacture of carbon electrodes for electric arc furnaces designed for the production of various types of ferroalloys, calcium carbide, among others.

The new plant, being built by Jungar Zhixin Carbon Co Ltd in China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region for 180 million yuan ($25.32 million), covers an area of 6.67 hectares.

Officials said that after nearly a year of construction, the main body of the plant has been basically completed. Various ancillary equipment is currently sitting in the plant area and will be installed soon.

Company chairman Li Yuheng said that with the latest progress, the plant is expected to go into trial production in June this year.

The product produced by the facility is a sealed paste of traditional conductive materials — an important raw material for the production of mineral furnaces — and is widely used in calcium carbide and ferrosilicon industries.

To ensure low carbon emissions, environmental protection and high efficiency in the production process, the plant will use advanced production technology and fully automated production equipment to achieve recycling.

When in full production, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of 1.32 billion yuan, annual sales of 1 billion yuan, and an annual pre-tax profits of 30 million yuan.

Officials said it will employ 150 people and will further improve the industrial supply chain of the development zone.

“We chose to settle the project in the Jungar Economic Development Zone, mainly because it has a mature calcium carbide industry foundation,” said company chairman, Li Yuheng.

After the plant starts producing, the products are set to be sold to the nearby Dongyi Chemical Co Ltd, which specializes in the production of calcium carbide in the economic zone.

Li Yuheng said that with a developed market and efficiently supply chain, he had full confidence in the new plant's future.
