Coloroom Pictures, which is best known for co-producing the Chinese blockbuster animated film Ne Zha, is set to turn two cartoons into live-action TV dramas, including the hit anime White Cat Legend, its parent company Enlight announced Monday.
Authored by a cartoonist known by the pseudonym name RC, White Cat Legend is set during the rule of Empress Wu Zetian in ancient China and tells the story of an official attempting to solve crimes with the appearance of a white cat.
The same anime had been adapted into a TV drama of the same name, which, animated by Nice Boat Animation, premiered on video-sharing platform Bilibili on April 10. The animated show is now the top-rated Chinese-language TV drama on review platform Douban, scoring 9.1 points of 10.
Ne Zha was the highest-grossing film on the Chinese mainland in 2019 with a box office of more than 5 billion yuan (about $706 million).
Enlight on Monday unveiled its 2020 list of TV drama projects that are scheduled to be launched. On the list are 14 TV dramas in total, including the two from Coloroom Pictures.
