The China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) is the country’s first comprehensive platform specializing in trade in services around the world.
Hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing Municipal Government, CIFTIS was annually held in Beijing from 2012 to 2014. It then became a biennial event between 2014 and 2018, before once again becoming an annual one in 2019. It has been held six times.
The event is also supported by the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
With the theme of "Openness, Innovation, Intelligence, and Integration," the sixth CIFTIS, which opened on May 28, 2019, focused on the service industry, including science, culture, healthcare, and business affairs. The five-day event had an exhibition area of 150,000 square meters, with one main venue and 10 parallel venues.
The event attracted over 130 countries and regions, as well as 21 international organizations. Of these, 98 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative participated in the event.
A total of 440 intended projects were signed at this year’s CIFTIS, with a total contract value of $105.06 billion. Among them, 134 were overseas projects, with a contract volume of $17.55 billion, accounting for 16.7 percent of the total.
