BEIJING -- A total of 263 suspects were prosecuted for being "protective umbrellas" for gang crimes from January to March, according to statistics released by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).
Procuratorial organs nationwide approved the arrest of 129 people suspected of sheltering gangs in the first three months of the year, the SPP said.
Meanwhile, a total of 13,811 people faced charges of being engaged in organized crime.
In addition, 1,463 people were indicted by prosecutors for offering fraudulent loans or collecting private loans by illegal means, the SPP noted.
