Second phase of Zhongguancun Medical Device Park underway

The groundbreaking ceremony of the second phase of Zhongguancun Medical Device Park was held at Zhongguancun Daxing Biomedical Industry Base on April 17.

The first-phase project was started in August 2014 and put into operation in June 2017.

With a total investment of one billion yuan, 186,000 square meters of industrial carriers, including innovative standardized plants, R & D centers for small and medium-sized enterprises, incubators and talent apartments have been built.

Up to now, four academicians, seven experts introduced by the Thousand Talents Plan, two academician workstations, one Beijing key laboratory, and 70 companies including Beijing's first medical company listed on the science and technology innovation board have settled in the park.

The annual output value is expected to reach more than five billion yuan after all companies achieve full capacity. Three scientific research results of the park were included in the "Innovative Medical Device Product Catalog (2018)" by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The second-phase project is expected to be operational three years from now.

With an investment of 1.19 billion yuan, a total planned land area of 104,400 square meters and a total construction area of 197,700 square meters, it will become an advanced medical industrial park focusing on high-end links and cutting-edge technologies in the medical field, as well as a pilot scale production platform for transferring and transforming innovative life science technologies from north Beijing.

According to the needs of enterprises, large-scale, medium-scale, and small-scale standardized plants will be built. It is expected that the first and second phase projects will achieve an annual output value of 10 billion yuan and employ more than 5,000 people.

Since June 2017, six major service platforms of the park, including a scientific and technological finance platform and professional technology platform, have achieved industrial outcomes such as high-end medical device research and development headquarters, new-type high-end medical device manufacturing, incubation and growth of the medical device business, and supporting services for medical devices.

The park was rated as the "Beijing Scientific and Technological Achievement Transformation Base for Strategic Emerging Industries" by the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission in 2014 and the "Zhongguancun Hard &Core Technology Incubator" by the Zhongguancun Management Committee in 2019.

The world's leading medical device technology platform providing engineering design, product launching, certification, registration and testing services, jointly constructed by the park and Zhongguancun Development Group, has begun trial operation.

The medical device innovative research and preclinical safety evaluation platform invested by the park and Beijing Tonghe Litai Biotechnology Corporation has provided biocompatibility evaluation, animal experiments, education and training for 120 medical device companies, reducing the costs of these companies by a total of four million yuan.
