April 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On April 17, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 27 new cases of confirmed infections (17 imported cases and 10 indigenous cases, 7 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province), 5 new cases of suspected infections (all are imported cases, 3 in Shanghai municipality and 2 in Heilongjiang), and no deaths. 50 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 986 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 4.
As of 24:00 on April 17, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,566 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 709 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 857 confirmed cases (including 47 in serious condition) and 58 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on April 17, the National Health Commission had received 82,719 reports of confirmed cases and 4,632 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,029 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,058 confirmed cases (including 85 in serious condition) and 63 suspected cases. So far, 723,835 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 8,893 are now under medical observation.
On April 17, Hubei province reported no new cases of confirmed infections, no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 7 patients (all in Wuhan) were released from hospital after being cured.
As of 24:00 on April 17, Hubei had reported 68,128 cases of confirmed infections (including 50,333 in Wuhan) and 4,512 deaths (including 3,869 in Wuhan). In all, 63,494 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 46,342 in Wuhan. There still remained 122 confirmed cases (all in Wuhan), with 27 in serious condition (all in Wuhan). There were no suspected cases.
On April 17, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 54 new asymptomatic cases (including 3 imported cases). 66 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 12 imported cases) and 9 became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on April 17, 1,017 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 191 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on April 17, 1,461 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,021 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 532 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (17 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 395 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 166 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
