April 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On April 16, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 26 new cases of confirmed infections (15 imported cases and 11 indigenous cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 3 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Shandong province, and 1 in Liaoning province), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all are indigenous cases, 2 in Heilongjiang and 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region), and no deaths. 52 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 412 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 6.
As of 24:00 on April 16, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,549 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 670 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 879 confirmed cases (including 45 in serious condition) and 57 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on April 16, the National Health Commission had received 82,367 reports of confirmed cases and 3,342 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,944 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,081 confirmed cases (including 89 in serious condition) and 62 suspected cases. So far, 722,909 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 8,970 are now under medical observation.
On April 16, Hubei province reported no new cases of confirmed infections, no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 17 patients (all in Wuhan) were released from hospital after being cured.
As of 24:00 on April 16, Hubei had reported 67,803 cases of confirmed infections (including 50,008 in Wuhan) and 3,222 deaths (including 2,579 in Wuhan). In all, 64,452 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 47,300 in Wuhan. There still remained 129 confirmed cases (all in Wuhan), with 32 in serious condition (all in Wuhan). There were no suspected cases.
On April 16, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 66 new asymptomatic cases (including 3 imported cases). 50 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 8 imported cases) and 10 became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on April 16, 1,038 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 206 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on April 16, 1,457 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,017 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 485 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (16 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 395 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 155 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
