The China-Eurasia Expo (CAE Expo) was first held in September 2011. It has been held at the Xinjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, every year since.
The China-Eurasia Expo was upgraded from a regional trade fair - the China Urumqi Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Fair - which had been running for 19 years.
The expo is jointly hosted by the Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China Development Bank, the Export-Import Bank of China, as well as the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation.
The expo specializes in a range of fields, including the building material, electronics, food, and tourism industries, aiming to promote the construction of the Silk Road economic region, as well as build connections between China and Eurasia.
The expo strives to become an ideal cooperation platform for the Eurasian region by using the geographical advantages of Xinjiang.
During the sixth CAE Expo that was held in 2018, 704 companies participated in the expo, of which 27 were among the Fortune 500. A total of 25 major companies in Xinjiang signed foreign trade contracts or agreements with 29 overseas companies from countries along the Belt and Road, with the overall trade volume amounting to 10.49 billion yuan ($1.49 billion).
