Rosa roxburghii, one of the major poverty alleviation industries in Southwest China's Guizhou province, achieved great breakthroughs in 2019.
As a unique species in the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, rosa roxburghii is favored by people pursing a healthy lifestyle due to its high vitamin C content.
Statistics show that Guizhou has 40 rosa roxburghii processing companies and 1.76 million mu (117,333.33 hectares) of rosa roxburghii planting areas, generating an annual output of 66,000 metric tons of rosa roxburghii fruit and 750 million yuan ($105.98 million) of rosa roxburghii processed product revenue.
The rosa roxburghii industry benefits 217,000 farmers from 65,000 impoverished households. The increased income per household is 6,138 yuan, covering 22,970 impoverish families.
By the end of 2020, Guizhou's rosa roxburghii planting areas will reach 2 million mu and the fruit output will reach 100,000 mu, with the fruit sales revenue aiming to reach 400 million yuan and the rosa roxburghii processed product revenue aiming to exceed 1 billion yuan.
Instructed by supporting plans and policies, Guizhou has established four rosa roxburghii economic belts in the cities of Liupanshui, Anshun, and Bijie, as well as Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.
Guizhou's rosa roxburghii processing companies have developed over 10 rosa roxburghii products, including juice, beverages, liquor, tea, preserved fruit, dried fruit, soft sweets, shortbread, oral liquids, lozenges, and powder.
Guizhou will focusing on making the rosa roxburghii industry benefit more farmers, striving to make it known to every family by 2025.
