A total of 71 medical workers from the First Hospital of Jilin University in Changchun -- capital city of Northeast China’s Jilin province-- received a rapturous welcome when they returned to their homes on April 12, according to local officials.

Their return followed two weeks of quarantine at Changbai Mountain, after they came back from helping the fight against the novel coronavirus in Wuhan city in Central China’s Hubei province, officials added.

The medics were from the first, third and fourth groups of the hospital who were sent to Wuhan to help treat coronavirus patients.

Hospital officials, doctors and nurses, as well as family members of the returning medics, gave them a rousing welcome at the hospital.

Hua Shucheng, director of the hospital, said at the welcome ceremony that the hospital was indebted to the medics and their families for their hard work and understanding, noting that the 71 medics helped treat nearly 1,000 patients in Wuhan and made great contributions in the fight against the epidemic.

He hoped the medics would contribute more to Jilin’s medical efforts, with even more determination to protect the health and security of the province’s people.

Representatives from the three groups also delivered reports on their work in Wuhan during the ceremony.
