Per capita GDP in Xiamen reaches standards of advanced economies

The per capita GDP in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, reached the standards of advanced economies in 2019, said Li Wei, chief statistician of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

Li made the remarks during an online analysis of theStatistical Bulletin on National Economic and Social Development in Xiamen 2019 on April 8.

According to Li, the per capita GDP in the city increased to 142,700 yuan ($20,200) last year from 118,000 yuan in 2018, and the gross regional GDP reached 599.5 billion yuan, ranking 33rd nationwide.

Xiamen's regional GDP increased 7.9 percent year-on-year, topping all other vice-provincial cities in China, added Li.

Xiamen also made the following economic and social development achievements last year.

Its per capita disposable income increased 9.7 percent year-on-year to 55,870 yuan and its per capita salary income grew 9.4 percent to 39,472 yuan.

The average life expectancy in the city was 80.89, 0.14 years longer than in 2018. This was mainly attributed to more complete healthcare and elderly care systems.

Subway line two has opened to traffic and lines three, four and six are under construction.

The natural environment in Xiamen led cities in China at the prefectural-level or above last year with a good air quality rate of 97.5 percent, a green coverage rate of 45.13 percent, and a concentrated wastewater treatment rate of 96.36 percent.
