Xiamen to boost recovery of MICE industry

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province is planning to restore confidence in the local MICE industry after the novel coronavirus pneumonia subsides in the city, said Wang Qiongwen.

Wang, deputy director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce, made the remarks in an interview with local media on April 1.

"The MICE industry is crucial to restoring the service industry after the epidemic", noted Wang, "Xiamen will continue optimizing its business environment and making full use of resources to construct itself into a renowned international MICE city and a model MICE city in China."

According to Wang, Xiamen has rolled out policies to promote the development of the MICE industry, such as offering regular subsidies and rewards for exhibitions, proposing the establishment of a system for giving rewards and subsidies to major exhibitions, and offering subsidies to renowned MICE agencies who set up operations in Xiamen.

MICE industry features highly gatherings of talents, information and capital, and, therefore, the MICE industry in Xiamen will transform from MICE-oriented industry to industries-oriented MICE.

Wang explained that Xiamen will make use of various exhibitions and conventions held in the city to attract high-end projects.

Wang also revealed that Xiamen is actively promoting the legislation of MICE industry and the Xiamen Special Economic Zone MICE Industry Regulations are expected to be published this year.

Xiamen is currently home to more than 600 MICE-related companies covering every aspect of exhibitions and conventions and more than 120 hotels which can host meetings.
