Cargo route linking Xi'an to Yulin kicks off

Carrying 14.2 metric tons of goods, on April 1 flight YG9065 flight departed Xi'an Xianyang International Airport in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, marking the official start of a new cargo route from Xi'an to Yulin, a city in the province.

Airport officials said it is the first cargo route newly opened by the airport this year and also the first of its kind in the province. Operated by YT Airlines and with flight time of about one hour, it is scheduled to make trips five times a week and is expected to ship more than 4,000 tons of cargo and mail throughout the year.

The departure trip will carry goods such as mechanical parts and raw materials urgently needed by local manufacturers in Yulin. The return journey will bring back agricultural and sideline Yulin products and e-commerce express shipments.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, the volume of belly-hold cargo on passenger routes has fallen sharply. But with the gradually improved overall freight network layout, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport has maintained an average daily cargo volume of more than 700 tons.

Officials said the opening of the Xi'an-Yulin cargo route will contribute to the development of aviation logistics in Shaanxi and provide convenient channel for goods transportation in the province.

On April 5, the airport will also open its new international cargo route to Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, followed by new cargo routes to Osaka in Japan and Los Angeles in the United States.
