Xi'an to build AI innovation development pilot zone

The Ministry of Science and Technology on March 9 announced a list of cities that will each build a national new generation artificial intelligence innovation development pilot zone, and Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province is on the list.

The other places are Chongqing, Chengdu and Jinan.

Focusing on the major national strategies and the needs of Xi'an's economic and social development, the pilot zone will explore new paths and mechanisms for the development of AI, in order to help with the continuing expansion of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Based on Xi'an's achievements and experiences to date in intelligent sensing processing and intelligent interactions, the new zone is expected to strengthen the research and development of AI frontiers and key core technologies, as well as improve an AI incubation services system.

In addition, it will carry out AI policy experiments and improve an open data sharing mechanism.

Officials said it will increase support for AI companies and new research and development institutions, as well as innovate AI talent training and recruitment procedures.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will actively work with Shaanxi province in advancing the construction of the Xi'an pilot zone.
