Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, will implement a series of construction projects in line with its annual environmental masterplan, with the goal to add and upgrade 6 million square meters of urban green space and planting 300,000 trees in 2020.
This year, the city's urban garden greening construction program will focus on strengthening the planning and management of the 14th National Games, and accelerating the pace of national central city construction.
This spring, the city plans to kick off with 404 greening tasks, with the goal of adding and upgrading urban green space of 2.4 million sq m and planting 120,000 trees.
The greening tasks included the completion and reconstruction of no less than 30 roads, no less than 20 green space squares and pocket parks, as well as building a greenway of no less than 20 kilometers in length.
Officials said that in addition, all districts, counties and development zones are set to complete preparatory work for roof greening and vertical greening.
In terms of trees used, officials said that local tree species should be the main choice, such as Chinese scholar trees, lacebark pines and glossy privets.
The proportion of native tree species should not be less than 70 percent of the planting, officials added.
