Flight MU9621 departed from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport for the city of Yiwu in East China's Zhejiang province on Feb 23, carrying 51 returning workers from China Railway Seventh Group.
Airport officials said the first flight for returning workers was on an Airbus A319 operated by Northwest Company of China Eastern Airlines.
The airline communicated with relevant departments and arranged dedicated check-in counters to help migrant workers board smoothly.
On Feb 24, the Northwest Company will also operate a Xi'an-Shenzhen charter flight for returning workers, which is expected to carry more than 130 staff from China Communications Constructions Company.
With the increased progress in novel coronavirus epidemic prevention and control, the flight traffic in Northwest China has steadily picked up, according to the Civil Aviation Administration Northwest Regional Administration.
Officials said that it is estimated that by the beginning of March, the number of flights at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport will resume to about 50 percent of normal flights.
