A signing ceremony for a series of 30 new projects in the city of Xi'an's biopharmaceutical sector was held in Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone in the Central China province of Shaanxi on Feb 22, local officials said.
Worth a total of 28.6 billion yuan ($4.07 billion), they said the projects will further expand the scale of Xi'an's biopharma industry.
They will also enhance its industrial innovation capability, involving the fields of Chinese patent medicines, chemical medicines, biomedicines, medical equipment, recreational tourism and finance.
Due to the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, except for two projects which were signed on-site, the other 28 projects were signed online using video links.
Officials said that after the projects are completed, they will greatly enhance the competitiveness of the local industry, cultivate a number of benchmarking companies, and help Xi'an build itself up as a biomedical industry highland.
At present, Xi'an has defined the biomedical industry as one of the six pillar industries of its advanced manufacturing sector.
The city aims to build a 50 million yuan industrial cluster led by sophisticated technologies such as 3D printing, optical equipment and regenerative medicine, officials said.
