The new emergency hospital for Xi'an public health center -- which was recently built and formally handed over on Feb 17, is expected to relieve the pressure on designated hospitals treating patients infected by the novel coronavirus pneumonia in the city, as well as improve the levels of treatment.

With a construction area of 27,542 square meters, the new emergency facility will provide about 500 beds.

Officials said the inspection area in the central medical and technical building is full of various inspection equipment and electricity has been made available.

One of the CT scan machines at the facility is said to be extremely advanced, offering more intelligent operations, with high-resolution and finer scanning. In addition, it can also intelligently scan patients and avoid close contact between doctors and patients.

Officials said that if a patient is going to have a CT scan, he or she walks through a door, while the doctor guides and operates the equipment through an intercom system behind glass, avoiding cross infection.

At present, the first batch of medical teams, comprising 127 medics from 15 hospitals -- including Xi'an Central Hospital, Xi'an No 1 Hospital and Xi'an No 3 Hospital -- has joined the emergency hospital and are ready to carry out medical treatment, officials said.
