March 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On March 23, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 78 new cases of confirmed infections, 35 new cases of suspected infections, and 7 deaths (all in Hubei province). 456 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 769 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 176.
As of 24:00 on March 23, the National Health Commission had received 81,171 reports of confirmed cases and 3,277 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 73,159 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 4,735 confirmed cases (including 1,573 in serious condition) and 132 suspected cases. So far, 691,185 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 12,077 are now under medical observation.
On March 23, Hubei reported 1 new case of confirmed infections (in Wuhan), no new cases of suspected infections, and 7 deaths (all in Wuhan). 444 patients were released from hospital after being cured, including 426 in Wuhan.
As of 24:00 on March 23, Hubei had reported 67,801 cases of confirmed infections (including 50,006 in Wuhan) and 3,160 deaths (including 2,524 in Wuhan). In all, 60,323 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 43,214 in Wuhan. There still remained 4,318 confirmed cases (including 4,268 in Wuhan), with 1,539 in serious condition (including 1,527 in Wuhan). There were no suspected cases.
On March 23, the Chinese mainland reported 74 new imported confirmed cases from overseas (31 in Beijing municipality, 14 in Guangdong province, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Fujian province, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Shandong province, and 1 in Chongqing municipality). As of 24:00 on March 23, the Chinese mainland had reported 427 imported confirmed cases from overseas.
As of 24:00 on March 23, 576 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 356 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 101 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 25 in Macao (10 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 195 in Taiwan (2 had been dead and 29 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
