The second batch of 121 medical staff members from Shaanxi province gathered at Xi'an Daxing Hospital on Feb 2 before leaving for Wuhan to help the novel coronavirus control efforts there. A number of respiratory and intensive medicine specialists joined the team.
Among them, 57 medical staff members were dispatched by hospitals affiliated to Xi'an, capital and largest city of northwestern Shaanxi province.
They included 26 from Xi'an Daxing Hospital, six from Xi'an 521 Hospital of Norinco Group, four from Shaanxi Friendship Hospital, three from Shaanxi Sengong Hospital, six from Xi'an Gaoxin Hospital, six from Xi'an International Medical Center Hospital, four from Chang'an Hospital and two from Xi’an Fengcheng Hospital.
"We will work hard and live up to the trust of everyone. For me, a very important task is to bring every member home safely," said Ma Xiancang, the leader of the medical team, who is also professor and vice president of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University.
Due to time constraints and the urgency, he told his mother and daughter about going to Wuhan only a few hours before leaving.
The medical staff were all notified about 11 pm on Feb 1. By the morning of Feb 2, they had already arranged their work and home affairs.
At 7:30 pm on Feb 2, the medical team had successfully arrived in Wuhan.
