Travelers to North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region are now required to declare their travel whereabouts and cooperate with quarantine work, according to a statement released on March 15 by the region’s novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic prevention and control department.

Officials said the Inner Mongolia authority is stepping up measures to prevent coronavirus cases from being imported from other virus-hit countries and regions.

The measures are targeting all inbound travelers -- foreigners as well as returnees.

They are required to declare their information to local residential communities or their company immediately on arrival in Inner Mongolia.

The health declarations will include inbound traveler’s identification information, phone numbers, visited countries, date of return, transportation methods, itinerary within 14 days, health status and the purpose of entry.

Meanwhile, inbound travelers are required to actively comply with the local epidemic prevention and control requirements and strictly implement the control measures for centralized quarantine and medical observation for 14 days.

Inbound travelers who arrived in Inner Mongolia before the statement was issued are also required to implement a 14-day centralized quarantine and medical observation, according to the requirements of local residential community.

All the fees incurred during the 14-day quarantine and medical observation period in Inner Mongolia, will be borne by inbound travelers at their own expense.

Officials said all administrative institutions, enterprises and individuals who learn about inbound travelers concealing their overseas travel history, or who have not taken the required quarantine measures, should report it to their community or call 110.

During the stay in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, inbound travelers shall abide by the relevant regulations for virus prevention and control.

Officials said those refusing to cooperate with the epidemic prevention and control measures shall bear the legal consequences.
