March 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On March 16, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 21 new cases of confirmed infections, 45 new cases of suspected infections, and 13 deaths (12 in Hubei province and 1 in Shaanxi province). 930 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,105 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 202.
As of 24:00 on March 16, the National Health Commission had received 80,881 reports of confirmed cases and 3,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 68,679 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 8,976 confirmed cases (including 2,830 in serious condition) and 128 suspected cases. So far, 681,404 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 9,351 are now under medical observation.
On March 16, Hubei reported 1 new case of confirmed infections (in Wuhan), no new cases of suspected infections, and 12 deaths (11 in Wuhan). 893 patients were released from hospital after being cured, including 836 in Wuhan.
As of 24:00 on March 16, Hubei had reported 67,799 cases of confirmed infections (including 50,004 in Wuhan) and 3,111 deaths (including 2,480 in Wuhan). In all, 55,987 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 39,220 in Wuhan. There still remained 8,701 confirmed cases (including 8,304 in Wuhan), with 2,782 in serious condition (including 2,695 in Wuhan), and 3 suspected cases (including 1 in Wuhan).
On March 16, the Chinese mainland reported 20 new imported confirmed cases from overseas (9 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Guangdong province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Yunnan province, and 1 in Shaanxi province). As of 24:00 on March 16, the Chinese mainland had reported 143 imported confirmed cases from overseas.
As of 24:00 on March 16, 235 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 157 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 88 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 11 in Macao (10 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 67 in Taiwan (1 had been dead and 22 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
