Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality – which features a major big data sector -- was recently listed as new national industrial demonstration base, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The demonstration base covers an area of 2.88 square kilometers, including Shuitu and Zhaomushan areas. These focus on developing emerging industries such as data storage, and data processing and financial settlements based on big data and cloud computing.
Shuitu area has attracted leading IT companies such as Tencent, China Unicom and Inspur which provide services for clients in government affairs, videos, games and in the finance industries.
The Zhaomushan area, on the other hand, is a major player in data applications and has a services industry cluster.
Currently the area has IT giants such as Tencent, Alibaba and Couldwalk, which are expected to attract upstream and downstream internet and big data companies in the industrial chain.
Tencent started to plan the layout of its operations in Liangjiang in 2013. The first stage of its cloud computing center went into use in 2017 and the second stage is under construction. When complete, the center will become the largest of its kind in West China, housing 200,000 servers.
Officials said that in the future, Liangjiang will complete its industrial ecosphere, improve the density of its industrial clusters and enhance the integration of big data and real economy to promote the construction of the demonstration base.
