SHANGHAI-- Shanghai will resume construction of a giant new museum, according to local authorities.
The project is a new section for the Shanghai Museum in downtown Shanghai. Covering an area of 113,000 square meters, the new site is in Shanghai's Pudong New Area.
The Shanghai Museum is known for its collection of ancient Chinese bronzes and porcelain. It is getting increasingly crowded as visiting demand rises.
The new museum will be an expansion of the existing museum. It is designed to have a futuristic structure.
More than 400 workers will return to the construction site in the next 10 days. Authorities have equipped the site with face recognition technology as part of the efforts to prevent virus transmission.
The new museum will be completed in 2021 and trial operations will begin in 2022.
