On March 8, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 40 new cases of confirmed infections, 60 new cases of suspected infections, and 22 deaths (21 in Hubei province and 1 in Guangdong province). 1,535 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,802 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 153.
As of 24:00 on March 8, the National Health Commission had received 80,735 reports of confirmed cases and 3,119 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 58,600 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 19,016 confirmed cases (including 5,111 in serious condition) and 421 suspected cases. So far, 674,760 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 20,146 are now under medical observation.
On March 8, Hubei reported 36 new cases of confirmed infections (all in Wuhan), 28 new cases of suspected infections (all in Wuhan), and 21 deaths (including 18 in Wuhan). 1,422 patients were released from hospital after being cured, including 1,163 in Wuhan.
As of 24:00 on March 8, Hubei had reported 67,743 cases of confirmed infections (including 49,948 in Wuhan) and 3,007 deaths (including 2,388 in Wuhan). In all, 46,433 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 30,933 in Wuhan. There still remained 18,303 confirmed cases (including 16,627 in Wuhan), with 4,991 in serious condition (including 4,735 in Wuhan), and 277 suspected cases (including 253 in Wuhan).
On March 8, the Chinese mainland reported 4 new imported confirmed cases from overseas (all in Gansu province). As of 24:00 on March 8, the Chinese mainland had reported 67 imported confirmed cases from overseas.
As of 24:00 on March 8, 169 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 114 in Hong Kong (3 had been dead and 59 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 10 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 45 in Taiwan (1 had been dead and 15 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
