Qingdao proves popular choice for skilled workers

The eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province has proved to be a popular destination for domestic and international talent.

Official data showed that last year about 250,000 people from home and abroad worked or started businesses in the city. In 2019, Qingdao recruited 47 top experts and 137 professionals from Shandong's "Mount Tai" talent project.

The city has been selected as "the most attractive Chinese city in the eyes of foreign talents" for eight consecutive years, and was selected as the "best city in attracting talent" in 2019 by Chinese online recruitment services provider Zhaopin.com and relevant institutions.

Last year, Qingdao began making efforts to attract skilled workers in marine economy, finance, high-end equipment manufacturing, enterprise operation and management, cultural creativity and scientific research.

Aspiring to develop smart, service-oriented, high-end modern industries and build an internationally influential city, Qingdao has rolled out a massive subsidy program to attract high-end professionals from home and abroad.

Top talent will receive various subsidies, such as job subsidies, salary subsidies and settlement subsidies, to help improve their living and working conditions.

In addition, the city also offers rental subsidies for fresh graduates.

The Qingdao municipal government has pledged to provide high-quality services to professionals and assist them in securing residence permits, health care and schooling for their children. It also offers services in policy consultation, project planning, recruitment, investment, settlement and medical wellness, among other things.
