Shinan fights virus with big data

The bureau of big data of Shinan district, Qingdao, Shandong province is helping with the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus through information management and big data.

More than 20 enterprises specializing in big data analysis and software development have formed a technical support alliance, with the aim of providing free services when needed.

Different types of online tools have been developed to improve efficiency in epidemic control, collaboration, information collection, and other areas. Over 1,000 software enterprises are also offering technical support through an online platform to help meet people's demands.

The district’s bureau of big data has been using the city's video conference system since the virus broke out. Documents can be submitted, checked and filed on the online service platform to quickly deal with civil affairs while minimizing face-to-face contact.

To solve difficulties in data collection amid the virus outbreak, the district is promoting smart measures to collect information through voice messages and QR codes. Departments are able to share recorded data together on the online platform.

The fast pass is being promoted in local communities to avoid over-registration, gathering in queues and cross infection.
