Imperial City Historical and Cultural Block
皇城历史文化街区
The Imperial City Historical and Cultural Block, covering an area of 6.8 square kilometers, is key in the strategy to protect Beijing's old city.
Starting from Chang'an Avenue in the south, the block goes to Ping'an Avenue in the north, and runs east along the north and south river banks of the Yuhe River in Dongcheng district, now the Huangchenggen Relics Park, and stretches west to Xihuangchenggen Avenue in Xicheng district.
The block is composed of the Forbidden City, imperial temples and gardens, and prince mansions. A tour route starting from Nanchang Street to Beichang Street, and from the Beichizi to the Nanchizi -- four main streets in the historical block -- provides a full review of the Imperial City.
Main attractions: The Forbidden City, Taimiao or the Imperial Ancestral Temple, Shejitan or the Altar of Land and Grain, Jingshan Park, Changpu River Park, Huangshicheng or the Imperial Archive, and Beihai Park
