West Sunwen Road Historical and Cultural Block in Zhongshan
中山市孙文西历史文化街区
One of China's earliest pedestrian roads, it was built during the Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907).
In 1925, it was named West Zhongshan Road in honor of the country's revolutionary leader and "father of modern China" Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), also named Sun Wen. In 1998, the West Sunwen Road was given a face-lift and became the West Sunwen Road Historical and Cultural Block.
Zhongshan Department Store and Zhongken Department Store, the two largest commercial centers in China and the country's first modern department stores, were then opened at the two corners of the street.
The CGV cinema, SOHO bar and KTV pub in the area are the most popular recreation centers where local people enjoy their night life. The night view along the Qijiang River is also perfect for evening strolls.
The West Sunwen Roadblock was the third in the ranking of "top ten commercial centers in which to enjoy night life in the Pearl River Delta".
