Baogang Group -- the largest iron and steel manufacturer based in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- has been making strides in novel coronavirus pneumonia prevention and control, supplying seamless steel tubes for medical oxygen cylinders used in the battle against the outbreak.
On Feb 14, Beijing Tianhai Industry Co contacted Baogang Group, which has maintained stable operations and production -- unlike many companies which initially shut down or curtailed output during the outbreak.
After receiving purchase orders from Beijing Haitian Industry Co, Baogang Group opened a fast track channel to speed up the production of seamless steel tubes for the Beijing company.
On Feb 16, Baogang Group selected 20 batches of tubes from its 1,000 ton 219 series of cylinder tubes in stock, with the required chemical composition properties. From these 20 batches, six batches that met the performance requirements were chosen.
A company spokesman said that a tube sample test showed that all the products met the performance requirements.
On Feb 17, three trucks loaded with 219 series gas cylinder tubes set off from Baogang, heading for Beijing.
The steel pipes were then processed into medical oxygen cylinders by Beijing Haitian Industry Co and were delivered to Wuhan in Hubei province, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.
