Baotou company speeds up mask production

Xingye Light Industrial Products Co, based in Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, began production of urgently needed surgical face masks and other medical protective products on Jan 29, according to a report in the Baotou Evening News.

The Baotou-based company's main business includes manufacturing work clothes and dust masks for parent company Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group.

A spokesman said that in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, the company is making great strides in producing protective masks for frontline workers who are battling the epidemic.

The spokesman explained that electrical welders need to wear dust masks to work, but if they wear another type of anti-virus mask, it is too thick and not breathable. So the company had to place the N95 protective liner in the dust mask to make it both dust-proof and conducive to providing an anti-virus layer.

On Jan 28, the company officially started mass production of the masks, the first batch of 400 were soon produced and delivered to employees of Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group, who had to work during the Spring Festival.

In order to speed up the production process, two or three workers have been put in charge of an assembly line and each process is completed by them.
