Cao Wenzhong, a farmer in Central China's Henan province, donated five metric tons of fresh spring onions to neighboring Hubei province, epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak. He spent five hours driving his own refrigerated truck to deliver the donation personally.
After the outbreak of the virus, Cao has been making great efforts to contribute to the prevention and control of the epidemic in his hometown. After learning medical workers in a traditional Chinese medicine hospital in Suizhou of Hubei province had been working around the clock to cure the patients, he decided to offer help.
On Feb 25, Cao and his family dug out fresh spring onions from their fields, cleaned and bundled them, then loaded them onto the truck. At 4 am on Feb 26, he finally arrived at his destination.
"I always felt I needed to do something for Hubei. I have nothing but some fresh spring onions," Cao said. "I felt much relieved after donating the vegetables to Suizhou."
