A Chinese company in Southwest China's Sichuan province has developed a 3D facial recognition system that can identify people wearing masks, according to the company.
The company, Wisesoft, developed the system with a research team of Sichuan University in the province. With the dynamic analysis of 3D modeling, the system, unlike traditional two-dimensional systems, can identify people with stains on their faces and wearing masks, the company said.
The system has a 98 percent accuracy rate per thousand people wearing masks, said Lv Xuebin, an employee of the company.
"It can also collect the body temperature data of the identified people to reduce unnecessary contact among personnel," said Lv.
More than 140 systems have been deployed in a hospital in Chengdu, the capital of the province. The company will produce over 1,000 systems in the next two months.
