Business as usual for Ordos animal husbandry, rural output

At present, it's a case of business as usual for animal husbandry and agricultural production in Ordos city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to local officials.

They told a news conference on Feb 20 that no suspected novel coronavirus pneumonia cases had been found in all the villages.

They said the epidemic situation was stable in rural and pastoral areas and the production of agriculture and animal husbandry was stable in Ordos.

In terms of epidemic prevention and control in rural and pastoral areas, officials from the Ordos bureau of agriculture and animal husbandry, said that at present more than 1.2 million people had been investigated and no suspected infections had been found in 736 villages in the city.

In addition, 161 of the city's 234 key agricultural and animal husbandry enterprises had resumed work, they added.

In terms of supply and security of agricultural and livestock products, production at the moment can meet demand from the residents of the city.

Officials said that at present, about 3,000 tons of vegetables are produced in Ordos, 28,000 tons of leafy vegetables are transported from other places, 17,000 tons of meat are produced there every month and 12,000 tons are sold there.

Officials added that this year, it is estimated that 470,000 hectares of crops will be sown around the city.

They added that currently, the various categories of agricultural reserves were in a sound situation and the supply of agricultural materials could meet the needs of spring ploughing.

In addition, the city's animal husbandry production was stable, and feed reserves sufficient.

Officials said authorities have also increased their efforts in epidemic prevention, supervision and investigation. At the same time, online and offline methods are being used to help farmers to sell nearly 500 million kilograms of surplus grain.
