In 2019, the total freight traffic reached 47.1 billion tons, and freight flows were 19.93 trillion ton-kilometers. The volume of freight handled throughout the year by ports above a designated size totaled 14.0 billion tons, up by 5.7 percent from the previous year. Of this total, freight for foreign trade was 4.3 billion tons, up by 4.7 percent. Container shipping at ports reached 261.07 million standard containers, up by 4.4 percent.
The total passenger traffic in 2019 reached 17.6 billion people, down by 1.9 percent from 2018, and passenger flows were 3,534.9 billion person-kilometers, up by 3.3 percent.
The total number of motor vehicles for civilian use reached 261.50 million (including 7.62 million tri-wheel motor vehicles and low-speed trucks) by the end of 2019, up by 21.22 million from that at the end of 2018, of which privately-owned vehicles numbered 226.35 million, an increase of 19.05 million. The total number of cars for civilian use stood at 146.44 million, an increase of 11.93 million, of which privately-owned cars numbered 137.01 million, an increase of 11.12 million.
Post services
The turnover of post services totaled 1.62 trillion yuan, up by 31.5 percent from 2018. In 2019, the number of mail deliveries was 2.17 billion; that of parcel deliveries was 20 million; and that of express deliveries was 63.52 billion with a revenue reaching 749.8 billion yuan.
Telecommunication service
The turnover of telecommunication services totaled 10.68 trillion yuan, up by 62.9 percent from 2018. By the end of 2019, there were 1,792.38 million phone subscribers in China, of which 1,601.34 million were mobile phone users. Mobile phone coverage rose to 114.4 sets per 100 people.
The number of fixed broadband internet users reached 449.28 million, an increase of 41.90 million from the previous year. Of this total, fixed fiber-optic broadband internet users amounted to 417.40 million, an increase of 49.07 million.
The mobile internet traffic in 2019 was 122.0 billion gigabytes, up by 71.6 percent from the previous year. Software revenue of software and IT services industry in 2019 was 7.18 trillion yuan, up by 15.4 percent from 2018 on a comparable basis.
