A series of online recruitment events will be organized to help university and college graduates seek jobs in South China's Guangdong province, one of the country's economic powerhouses, starting in March.

According to a statement released by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, organizing online recruitment events is just one of the 13 measures introduced by Guangdong provincial government to help university and college graduates find jobs during the COVID-19 outbreak in the province, home to myriad foreign-funded companies, joint ventures and privately-run firms.

Online recruitment events, code named The Warm Kapok, will run for four months. The kapok is the city flower of Guangzhou.

The Warm Kapok is jointly organized by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, Guangdong Provincial Department of Veterans Affairs and the Guangdong Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, university and college students in Guangdong can seek jobs using their computers and mobiles phones, sending their resumes to would-be employers and participating in interviews online, the statement said.

More than 12,000 Guangdong companies have registered via online platforms to participate in the online recruitment drive, offering more than 400,000 jobs, the statement said.

Official statistics from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education indicate that the province has more than 603,000 university and college graduates this year.

The department has urged relevant departments to do what they can to help the province's university and college students find jobs and provide even better service in the months to come, the statement added.
