Feb 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 21, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 397 new cases of confirmed infections, 1,361 new cases of suspected infections, and 109 deaths (106 in Hubei province, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Shanghai municipality, and 1 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps). 2,393 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 26,441 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 156.

As of 24:00 on Feb 21, the National Health Commission had received 76,288 reports of confirmed cases and 2,345 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 20,659 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 53,284 confirmed cases (including 11,477 in serious condition) and 5,365 suspected cases. So far, 618,915 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 113,564 are now under medical observation.

On Feb 21, Hubei reported 366 new cases of confirmed infections (including 314 in Wuhan), 1,125 new cases of suspected infections (including 927 in Wuhan), and 106 deaths (including 90 in Wuhan). 1,767 patients were released from hospital after being cured, including 992 in Wuhan.

As of 24:00 on Feb 21, Hubei had reported 63,454 cases of confirmed infections (including 45,660 in Wuhan) and 2,250 deaths (including 1,774 in Wuhan). In all, 13,557 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 7,206 in Wuhan. There still remained 47,647 confirmed cases (including 36,680 in Wuhan), with 10,892 in serious condition (including 9,555 in Wuhan), and 4,490 suspected cases (including 3,414 in Wuhan).

As of 24:00 on Feb 21, 104 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 68 in Hong Kong (2 had been dead and 6 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 10 in Macao (6 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 26 in Taiwan (1 had been dead and 2 had been cured and discharged from hospital).

Note: Hubei province has re-added the cases that were initially subtracted from the total on Feb 19 to confirmed cases and corrected the number of new cases in the province on the same day. Consequently, the number of new confirmed cases on Feb 19 in the 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps was corrected to 820 and the cumulative confirmed cases as of 24:00 on Feb 19 was changed to 75,002. The number of patients who had been cured and discharged from hospital as of 24:00 on Feb 19 was corrected to 16,157. The number of cumulative confirmed cases as of 24:00 on Feb 20 in the 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps was corrected to 75,891. The number of patients who had been cured and discharged from hospital after being cured as of 24:00 on Feb 20 was changed to 18,266.
