China Movie Channel donates films to Hubei broadcasters

China Movie Channel, also known as CCTV-6, has recently donated 60 acclaimed domestic movies to broadcasters in Hubei province, the most seriously affected region by the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.

The lineup covers a variety of genres, including the war epic The Founding of an Army, sports film To the Fore, coming of age comedy Take My Brother Away and the reform and opening-up-themed American Dreams in China.

Besides, director Miao Yue’s 2014 Taste of Home – a film reflecting Wuhan people’s daily lives – is in the donated list, as the channel wishes it will give locals in the capital city of Hubei province a slice of warmth.

Half of all the films, or 30, are donated to Hubei Media Group, the province’s largest State-owned broadcaster, and Wuhan Radio and Television Station.

The remaining 30 movies, including the Golden Rooster Award-winning Find My Way Home, are specially remade for TV sets or screens in the temporarily constructed cabin hospitals in Wuhan, which have yet to be digitally connected to satellite channels.

The hospitals – which were once gymnasiums, exhibition centers or building complexes – are used to treat patients with mild pneumonia infected with the new strain of coronavirus.

All the 60 movies have been consecutively broadcast since Feb 15.
