IMDb rating: 6.5/10

The Taking of Tiger Mountain, a 2014 Chinese mainland-Hong Kong 3D epic action film directed by Tsui Hark, was released on Dec 23, 2014.

Adapted from the novel Tracks in the Snowy Forest by Qu Bo, the story focuses on a conflict between a People's Liberation Army squad and a bandit gang in Northeast China during the Chinese revolution.

Zhang Hanyu portrays Yang Zirong (1917-47), who is based on a real-life person.

Most of the shooting of the film was done in China Snow Town (Xuexiang).

Located 280 kilometers southeast of Harbin, the capital city of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, Snow Town, as the name suggests, is the best place in China to enjoy white winter scenery.

This town goes through a seven-month snowy period annually from October to next May. In those months it becomes a white fairy wonderland. In addition to the beautiful natural scene, visitors can also enjoy entertainment activities such as skiing, snowballing, and horse-sledding.

Xueyun Avenue is the liveliest place in the town, gathering various shops and inns along a 547-yard (500-meter) street. You can have a taste of the town’s frozen pears or sugar-coated haws, or take photos of a bar renovated from an old-fashioned locomotive.

Local people decorate their houses with red lanterns. Under the lantern light the town looks like a graceful painting of a rural scene in winter.

At night, it must be an unforgettable experience for visitors to sleep on a traditional heated kang, a bed piled up with bricks and warmed by fire that is common in northern China.
