Guangzhou launches online declaration for mailed luggage

Guangzhou Customs launched an online service on Feb 6 which allows passengers to declare their mailed luggage online.

Passengers who have mailed part of their luggage should choose the channel with goods to declare and make a declaration in advance when crossing the border. Passengers can also use the WeChat mini program in Guangzhou to finish their declaration.

With the help of the online platform, people no longer need to bring materials such as passports to local customs service halls to finish their declaration.

"This service allows me to finish the declaration at home, which is very convenient for people," said a passenger surnamed Yang, the first user of this service, who mailed part of his luggage back to Guangzhou when leaving Japan.

Gan Hui, a staff member from Guangzhou municipal postal administration, said:"Guangzhou Customs have undertaken the supervision of mail of many municipalities and cities in China, and Customs handled a total of 280 million mailings in 2019, ranking the top in China."

"The online platform has made clearance at Guangzhou Customs more effective," added Gan.
