North China's Tianjin municipality has planned to accelerate the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, as the development strategy enters its sixth year of implementation.
Tianjin will play a bigger part in further relieving Beijing of functions nonessential to its role as the nation's capital, Zhang Guoqing, the city mayor, said at the opening of the annual municipal legislative session on Tuesday.
Tianjin will facilitate the expansion and relocation of Beijing-based centrally administered SOEs, financial institutions, scientific research institutions, medical establishments, and colleges and universities, Zhang said.
Tianjin will also support the construction of the Xiongan New Area in Hebei province, and deepen cooperation on information sharing, logistics service, inspection and quarantine between Tianjin Port and Xiongan.
Zhang said the inter-regional management of air, river and ecology protection will be highlighted with more practical measures.
As for transportation development, the construction of an expressway and three high-speed railways in the region is well underway.
