BEIJING -- Chinese prosecutors approved the arrest of 4,510 suspects for charges of producing and selling fake and shoddy medicine, substandard and harmful food in the first 11 months of 2019.
Procuratorial organs across the country also prosecuted 10,012 suspects involved in 5,937 such cases from January to November, said a source of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
In the meantime, Chinese courts in the country last year stepped up efforts in combating and punishing in accordance with law all illegal and criminal activities related to food and medicine.
The courts concluded the first-instant trials of 5,986 criminal cases involving drug and food crime during the first 11 months of 2019, with 8,905 judgments effective during the same period.
