Crayfish is one of the most popular foods in the local area. Hefei has been awarded the title of "China's Freshwater Crayfish Capital" and is the only city in China to win this honor. Every summer, Hefei holds a crayfish festival. Typically there are six or seven different flavors, such as spicy, stir-fried, and original.

In the urban area, it is easy to get crayfish. There are nearly 4,000 crayfish restaurants. The popular crayfish courts are located in Ningguo Road, Datong Road, Xiyuan Xincun Crayfish Street, Amber Village Crayfish Street, and the newly opened Lei Street. The price of crayfish is similar across the city: about 30 yuan for a small size, 60 yuan for a large, or 25 yuan for half a kilogram. On summer evenings, at almost any restaurant, you can enjoy an ice cold beer with some spicy crayfish, as well as barbecue and snacks like boiled green beans or peanuts, all of which add up to create good summer vibes.
