Li Hongzhang was an important minister in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). As a typical residential building of the late Qing Dynasty in Jianghuai area (the area south of the Huai River and north of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River), the Former Residence of Li Hongzhang is the largest and best-preserved former residence of dignitaries in Hefei.

From south to north, the building includes the gate, front hall, central hall and Zoumalou Building. This is decorated with carved wooden beams and houses the exhibition of Li Hongzhang. The Zoumalou Building is the quintessential part of the entire site. The shape of the wooden building is akin to the Chinese character "回".

On the first floor, there is an exhibition of "Li Hongzhang and China Merchants". The boudoirs of ladies are on the second floor. To the east of the main building is an exhibition hall demonstrating the Huai-Bloc led by Li Hongzhang and displaying the armor of the Huai-Bloc and the five-color imperial edict.
